Artist's Comments

This is the first picture of Mathisen I have ever finished. He's one of Gabriel's companions in Kreuzfahrer.

To be quite honest, I started the sketch a long time ago (sometime last year I think) and the urge just overtook me to finish it a few days ago. Again, the scan sucks but the picture is kind of small and I just suck at cleaning up a scan anyways.

I'm kind of happy with the design except for a few little things. I don't know exactly how Mathisen's maces are strapped to him but I'll figure that one out later. I am pretty fond of his huge Bible and his light armor. His face looks a bit weird but it won't change much, just maybe get tweaked.

He's Eastern German or Norse, or both. I don't know. Probably Norse and one of the first converts in that area to Christianity. I have a bit of story surrounding how he gets together with Gabriel and I suppose I'll post it in a journal later.

Next I guess I should draw Michael and then afterwards a picture with all three.

Anyways, tell me what you think.

I worship the detail in this! His design is quite attractive, and I'm really drawn to his cuffed sleeves. I was kinda curious myself as to how his weapons were strapped on, maybe the back of the belt has a holster or something of somekind.

Have you tried using duct tape or velcro to keep his maces on?
